All About Earning BadgesWe are over halfway through this year’s Summer Reading Program!

You probably already know that reading and logging your minutes earns you entries toward weekly prize drawings. But did you know that you can earn extra entries by completing the Activity Badges, too? Activity Badges let you get additional rewards while exploring what the library has to offer.

Since this year’s program is completely virtual, we’ve added a ton of fun activities to keep readers busy this summer. In particular, children and teen participants will find loads of hands-on activities they can try at home to keep boredom at bay. Kids can try STEM activities like lemon volcanoes, shaving cream rain clouds, and LEGO building challenges to keep their minds sharp this summer. There are also creative activities for kids including: fairy gardens, building boxfort castles, and rock painting. Teens are encouraged to think critically when they earn badges by telling us about their dream pet, describing their favorite song of the summer, going on book-title hunts, and sharing “shelfies” with their favorite books!

Adult readers can also earn fun Activity Badges! You are encouraged to recommend good reads, share your favorite reading spots, and try some new activities. More badges are added all summer long, so keep checking back to see what’s new. This is also where you’ll find this year’s Bingo card. Get out of your reading comfort zone by trying new genres and authors as you earn Bingos and badges!

If you haven’t signed up for Summer Reading, there is still plenty of time! Visit our Summer Reading Page at sewickleylibrary.org/summer-reading to get registered and start logging. You could win great prizes!
