The Sewickley Public Library welcomes author and scholar, Patricia DeMarco, to present “The Ocean Around Us, The Ocean Within Us”.  The presentation will explore the importance of the ocean as a defining feature of our planet and the ways in which we are connected to the life of the ocean. DeMarco will examine how we can be good stewards of the critical ocean ecosystem which is an essential support system for humanity.

Dr. DeMarco’s passion and dedication for environmental issues led her to write “Pathways to Our Sustainable Future: A Global Perspective from Pittsburgh” which explores positive pathways toward sustainability, based on 28 case studies from the Pittsburgh region.

DeMarco holds a doctorate in biology from the University of Pittsburgh and has spent a thirty-year career in energy and environmental policy in both private and public sector positions. She served as executive director of the Rachel Carson Homestead Association and director of the Rachel Carson Institute at Chatham University. In 2017 she was honored with the Freudenburg Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association for Environmental Studies and Sciences.

The presentation will be held in the community room of the Sewickley Public Library on Monday, July 18 at 7:00 p.m. Advance registration is required for this program.
