Love Your Library

We are excited to announce that our community unlocked an additional $11,647 in matching funds for Sewickley Public Library during Love Your Library month!

Our annual campaign brought in 166 gifts totaling more than $64,482 in support of the library. What an incredible show of community generosity!

We’re deeply grateful to everyone who contributed, including our individual donors, corporate and foundation partners, and the Friends of the Sewickley Public Library, who raised a record $6,407 from their fall book sale.

We simply cannot thank you enough for loving YOUR library! If there’s anything we’ve learned this September, it’s how generous and supportive our community truly is❤️

When the library experienced an emergency closure due to a water leak that caused widespread damage, the immediate outpouring of support from our friends and neighbors was incredible. We love hearing how important the Sewickley Public Library is to you, how much you treasure our historic building, and the sincere empathy displayed on behalf of our beloved institution.

Your continued support is a firm reminder of just how much this library means to our community and how crucial our mission to support lifelong learning remains. We could not provide these vital services without donors like you.

Attend the Broadside Terrace Garden Party Grand Opening

We invite you to the Grand Opening of the Broadside Terrace, the library’s newly transformed outdoor space, on Thursday, September 25, Thursday, October 2 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. This vibrant, accessible terrace features stone walkways, comfortable seating, and lush landscaping—creating a welcoming hub for community connection, relaxation, and library events.

We add hundreds of new physical books to our collection every month to provide the latest best sellers to our patrons. From Kristin Hannah to Fredrik Backman to Zadie Smith, our patrons can find the book their friends and neighbors are buzzing about. Your gift helps infuse our collections budget with the funding necessary to bring the books to the people. Find your latest and greatest read in our catalog.

$50 One New eBook

With more and more patrons utilizing eReaders like Kindles, our digital collections are growing at a rapid pace. Libraries face some interesting challenges in keeping up with this growing demand, including paying much higher prices per title than a private consumer. Your gift can keep our digital collections strong. Check out some digital titles now!

$100 Take and Make Kits

While the digital world is exploding, libraries know the value of analog activities like crafting that provide a creative outlet that allows for self-expression and mental health awareness. Take and Make Kits are passive programs that visitors can pick up and take home to work alone or together with friends to create something fun or beautiful. Your gift at this level can help to provide the materials needed to bring this activity to our patrons each month. Discover other arts & crafts programs at the library.

$250 Battle of the Books Prizes

Our Battle of the Books programs are designed to encourage reading through a friendly trivia competition complete with themed costumes and lots of excitement. From fourth grade through 12th, teams of students read from a designated list of books and the most knowledgeable team comes out on top with fabulous prizes to be had. Your gift at this level rewards the readers who immersed themselves in a love of reading for months to demonstrate their literary skill. Read more about Battle of the Books.

$500 One Children’s StoryWalk

Our StoryWalks place pages from a children’s picture book along a walking path so children and their caregivers can enjoy nature and reading together. We are proud to partner with Allegheny Land Trust at Audubon Greenway, Fern Hollow Nature Center, Henle Park, Mary Roberts Rinehart Nature Park, Ohio Township Nature Center, and Edgeworth Elementary School to bring these StoryWalks to our community. Your gift can help to provide the supplies necessary to bring these stories to life. Read more about our StoryWalks.

Our StoryWalks are funded in part by the David A. Murdoch Memorial Fund. Mr. Murdoch was instrumental in raising the funds to build the addition to our library that includes our beautiful Children’s Department that is celebrating its 25th anniversary this fall.

All of the programming mentioned here is created and presented by our incredibly talented staff of librarians and clerks who serve our 14,000 library card holders in the Quaker Valley Community and beyond. 

Gifts made to our annual operating fund any time of year support them with the resources they need.
