Montessori Children’s Community
April 3 – May 12, 2024
Montessori Children’s Community first through sixth grade students have been working hard to strengthen their understanding of two and three-dimensional design strategies with the guidance of teacher Sarah Lyon. Explorations of proportion, placement, position, line, shape, texture, and color are essential for developing a strong foundation in art and design.
Portraiture, animal cartoons, natural object collages, and calligraphy are some of the subjects and techniques pursued in practicing these design principles. Portraiture, for example, allows students to study the proportions and placement of facial features, while animal cartoons provide opportunities to explore expressive lines and shapes. Natural object collages encourage students to experiment with texture and composition, while calligraphy introduces them to the art of manipulating line and form. They have been making intentional choices about line quality, shape variation, color harmony, and texture application, enhancing their ability to communicate ideas and emotions effectively through their art.
Their dedication and enthusiasm for learning and experimenting with new techniques are truly commendable and bode well for their continued growth and development as artists.
