A Community Plan for the Library’s Future
We are proud to share the launch of Sewickley Public Library’s new Strategic Plan, which sets a clear path for the Library’s future.
Built on more than 150 years of service, this plan honors the Library’s long history as a place for learning, connection, and community. It marks an important step in how the Library plans, grows, and responds to the needs of the people it serves.
The plan was shaped by the voices of our community, along with thoughtful research and staff input. Through surveys, listening sessions, and a review of library use and trends, we learned what matters most to residents of all ages. Families, students, and older adults shared ideas that helped guide this plan and reflect the community’s strong value of curiosity, literacy, and lifelong learning.
The Strategic Plan focuses on open access to information, welcoming spaces for all, and services that support learning at every stage of life. It also highlights the importance of community partnerships and stable funding so the Library can remain strong in the years ahead. This plan will guide decisions and improvements over time, and we invite everyone to be part of the journey by visiting the Library, sharing ideas, volunteering, or offering support to help ensure Sewickley Public Library continues to serve future generations.

Why Does Our Library Need a Strategic Plan?
A strategic plan is like a roadmap for the library. It helps us figure out where we’re going, how we’ll get there, and what matters most along the way. It’s based on what you—our community—tell us you need and value.
With this plan, we can:
- Focus on What Matters Most: Whether it’s more books, better technology, quiet study spaces, or fun programs for all ages, the plan helps us focus on the things that make the biggest difference in your lives.
- Use Resources Wisely: We want to make smart choices with our time, staff, and budget. The plan guides us so we can do the most good with what we have.
- Stay Flexible and Ready: The world is always changing. This plan helps us keep up and adjust to new challenges—like changes in technology, education, or how people like to learn and connect.
- Work Together with the Community: It helps us build stronger partnerships, apply for funding, and show how the library supports learning, creativity, and connection for everyone.
In short, the strategic plan makes sure your library continues to grow, improve, and serve as a welcoming, useful, and inspiring place for all.
We have contracted with The Ivy Group, Ltd. of Charlottesville, VA to help us chart the course for our strategic plan.
