Enjoy an Afternoon of Artistic Exploration and Cultural Appreciation
Join artist Hiromi Katayaka to learn about the Sumi-e Japanese Ink Painting artform on Wednesday, December 18 from 1:00-3:00pm. Participants will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the tranquil and meditative practice of Sumi-e, discovering the beauty in simplicity and the power of each brushstroke. Sumi-e is ink painting on thin rice paper using sumi ink and bamboo brushes with expressive brush strokes. This workshop will include a history of Sumi-e painting in Japan, demonstrations, step-by-step instruction, and a final holiday-themed project that each participant will complete.
All necessary materials will be provided and all levels of experience are welcome. There is a $5 materials fee to register. Spaces are limited, so be sure to reserve your spot early. This is a unique opportunity to learn from a talented artist and to create a personalized piece of art that can be cherished for years to come or given as a gift for the holidays.
Hiromi Katayama is a native of Ibaraki, Japan where she received her BFA in Japanese Traditional Painting from Joshibi University of Art and Design and an MFA in Painting from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.
